Keep a scale on the bench and weigh as you seal; a weight outside the expected range triggers a re-check — speeding you up while cutting errors and DIM-weight disputes.
Two types
- Bench scale: weight only, often 20–70kg capacity, cheap and sufficient;
- Dimensional scale: measures weight plus L/W/H and computes DIM weight — pays off with high volume or mixed box sizes.
Indicative pricing
| Type | Indicative (AUD) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Bench scale (large display) | ~A$130–400 | Most small/medium sellers |
| Dimensional / cubing scale | ~A$700–2,800 | ~50+/day, mixed boxes, DIM disputes |
| Box resizer/scorer (companion) | ~A$35–70 | Cuts tall boxes shorter to remove void; excellent value |
Fastest way to use it
- Embed the scale after the sealing point so parcels land on it naturally;
- Set an expected weight per order; an out-of-range value triggers an alert;
- Weigh, label and update status in one move, then move on.
Merging a later/ batch weigh into the station saves roughly 4–10 s/order and — more importantly — catches errors before dispatch.
Equipment prices are indicative Australian retail bands in AUD for 2026. They vary by brand, retailer, promotion and over time, and exclude GST, freight and installation; the invoice at purchase prevails. “Seconds saved” are ranges from published warehouse-operations material — estimates, not guarantees. Time your own process with a stopwatch first. See Sources & method.
To cut void and DIM freight, see boxes & mailers; pair with a thermal printer for weigh+label.
